Studio Sessions: rkdz photography

Having known Rick for some years now, primarily as a musician (he is both a percussionist and pianist, and surprises many around him as a vocalist with an extraordinary baritone/tenor singing voice) I was curious about his request, not only to visit my studio space, but to document his first visit. We had discussed the possibility of an artistic exchange, or combined expression of our gifts, but I was unsure about how this would happen.

As these things go, Rick pulled another playing card out of his seemingly endless sleeve, truly shocking me with what ultimately resulted from his studio visit: an amazing video documentary and accompanying photography, and a stunning glimpse into my world through his eyes, curated by his own visual artistic prowess, in the areas of digital media and photography. And somehow, in this organic viewpoint into my studio that he offers us, you truly get a sense for the space – the dense third-floor heat in the warehouse, the growing shadows of a late summer day, the organized chaos of my thinking space, the gritty materials that come together to form new designs, new worlds, new possibilities.
