Text: About Imo - Full Name: Imo Nse Imeh. In the Ibibio language, Imo = "Wealth," Nse = "Looking up to God," Imeh = "Patience." I Absolutely love to draw. Education: BA, Art History, Columbia University - MA, PhD, African Art, Yale University
I believe that our complex histories and experiences should be told with unfolding lines. I use lines to unpack the Beautiful and Horrific stories of my Amazing Ancestors. I use the human figure to tell our Remarkable Journeys
My current projects all embrace a strong element of Social Justice. My Responsibility as an Artist is to offer a Voice to The Voiceless, to the very best of my abilities. It is what I have been called to do.
I Believe strongly that our present-day situations are intricately woven with the threads of our Pasts. For me, this is where Art-making and Art History intersect - a critical juncture that allows me to present our Unique Stories. As for My People - TOO MANY of Our Stories have gone UNTOLD
As a result, All of us are at a Deficit. ALL of us.
I am Hopeful, However, that with the Language of Art, We can be intentional in considering The Beauty and Trauma of our Journeys. Trying Together.
And perhaps, if we all keep trying...We Rise Together in The End.
